Ruth Gemmell opens up on private home life and new romance

Ruth Gemmell, best known for her starring role as Lady Violet Bridgerton in Netflix’s global hit Bridgerton, has offered fans a rare look into her private life, including her recent marriage to a close friend and how she balances love, career and home.

Gemmell, who first shot to prominence in the 1990s and has appeared in projects ranging from Fever Pitch to Penny Dreadful, was previously married to actor Ray Stevenson. 

According to Daily Mail, the couple met on the set of the ITV series Band of Gold in the mid-1990s, tying the knot in Westminster in 1997 before divorcing in 2005 after eight years of marriage.

Following years of privacy around her personal life, Gemmell has now revealed she found love again with an “old friend” and has been married to him for over a decade, a chapter she says brought new joy and stability. 

Moreover, the Bridgerton star admitted she once feared audiences might not embrace a “love story at my age,” but that her later relationship has been deeply fulfilling.
