Ben Affleck has revealed a truly grim behind-the-scenes secret from one of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters when he was violently ill while shooting Armageddon.

The 53-year-old actor has admitted he was suffering from food poisoning while filming one of the 1998 disaster movie’s most emotional scenes alongside Bruce Willis.

Too inexperienced at the time to call in sick, Ben decided to power through with a bin never far away.

Recalling the ordeal, The Accountant actor said he was “literally vomiting between takes”, adding that it was the only time that’s ever happened to him on a film set.

Crew members reportedly placed a rubbish bin next to him as he retched in breaks from filming.

Ever the professional, he joked the illness may have actually helped his performance.

Despite the misery, the Gone Girl star looks back on the film with fondness, describing Armageddon as a “weird, wonderful, otherworldly” experience.

Moreover, he recently reunited with co-star Steve Buscemi and the pair reminisced about the chaotic shoot.

Director Michael Bay later confirmed the story, revealing Ben had the stomach flu and looked “terrible” while filming the movie’s emotional ending but insisted it made the performance even more powerful.

Meanwhile, Good Will Hunting star has also spoken about family life, admitting he doesn’t want his children to “waste” their lives following him into acting.

The Town actor, who shares three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, said he wants them to have the freedom to choose their own paths.
