Eddie Murphy appears to be no stranger to an Irish goodbye, as the comedian told the story of the time he raised eyebrows by partaking in the act at the prestigious Oscars ceremony years ago.

The Golden Globe winner recalled the time he was nominated for an Academy Award in the best supporting actor category for his performance as James “Thunder” Early in Dreamgirls and has finally disclosed why he left soon after losing the award back in 2007.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Norbit actor stated, ““What happened was I was at the Oscars, I had lost, and then people kept coming over to me and kept [patting] me on the shoulder.”

“Clint Eastwood came and rubbed my shoulder. And I was like, oh, no, no, I’m not gonna be this guy all night. Let’s just leave. I didn’t storm out. I was like, I’m not gonna be the sympathy guy all night,” Eddie said.

The coveted Oscar was won by Alan Arkin that night for Little Miss Sunshine, a win that the 64-year-old recalled predicting after he saw an early screening of the film.
