Kim Kardashian has been criticized by animal welfare organization PETA after she gifted each of her four children a puppy this Christmas, reigniting debate about responsible pet ownership.
On December 25, Kardashian posted a festive Instagram Story showing four tiny Pomeranian puppies, two dark-coated, one cream-colored and one sable, writing, “Each kid got a puppy.”
The snaps, shared with her millions of followers, showed the dogs nestled together on a couch, marking the latest addition to the family’s already extensive menagerie of pets.
However, the Christmas gesture drew swift condemnation from PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, who said the move missed an opportunity to support animal shelters.
“Puppies are not plushies,” she said in a statement, calling it “a damn shame” that Kardashian did not promote adoption from animal rescues.
According to Daily Mail, Newkirk added that purchasing purebred dogs from breeders sends the wrong message amid an ongoing homeless animal crisis.
PETA urged Kardashian and her sister Khloé Kardashian, who also welcomed a Labrador puppy into her family this holiday season, to consider volunteering at shelters, sponsoring adoption events or supporting spay-and-neuter initiatives in future.
Online reactions were mixed, with some fans defending the gifts as heartfelt family moments, while others echoed PETA’s concern, stressing the long-term responsibilities of pet ownership.
