Chevy Chase returned to the public spotlight this week as he appeared at a rescheduled event in Richmond, Virginia, following a bout of pneumonia that forced the postponement of the original engagement earlier in December.

The screening of the holiday classic National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at the Altria Theater on Dec. 29 marked his first major appearance since falling ill, his representatives confirmed.

Chase was joined on stage by his wife of 43 years, Jayni Chase, where the pair shared light-hearted moments and reflections on his long career in comedy alongside host Tony Deyo.

Despite occasional coughing fits that drew laughs from the audience, friends and fans were delighted to see Chase smiling and engaging with attendees.

During the nearly 90-minute discussion, Chase revisited highlights from his extensive body of work, from his breakthrough on Saturday Night Live to iconic films such as Fletch and The Three Amigos, offering anecdotes from his decades in entertainment.

According to People, he also spoke about the upcoming CNN documentary I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not, which chronicles both his career and personal experiences, including interviews with his three daughters and behind-the-scenes insights.

Chase’s wife humorously revealed she was recovering from a “boxer’s fracture” and shared playful banter with her husband, underscoring the couple’s rapport and resilience.

Fans left the event celebrating Chase’s recovery and the joyful return of one of comedy’s enduring figures.
