Kate Winslet, who is set to make her directing debut with the Christmas drama Goodbye June, has revealed a very unexpected trick she swears by to keep negative energy at bay.
The 50-year-old actress, best known for her iconic role as Rose in Titanic, admitted the superstition sounds “totally nuts” but insists it helps protect her from what she politely calls “tricky individuals”.
Speaking on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Kate explained she isn’t big on “Hollywoody” wellness trends but doesn’t mind a small protective ritual.
“I’m not opposed to a little talisman-y something,” she laughed, before adding: “A bit of salt in your shoes. A bit of salt in your pockets.”
According to The Reader actress, the salt acts like a sponge for bad vibes.
“It soaks up the toxicity and doesn’t go into you,” she said, confirming she’s genuinely done it.
Host Jimmy jokingly replied that this must be where he’s been going wrong, prompting Kate to double down: “Shove salt in your shoes. Totally nuts!”
Notably, she was on the show promoting her new film Goodbye June, which she also directed, starring Toni Collette and Dame Helen Mirren.
Kate described Collette’s character as “very holistic”, a theme that sparked the chat about spiritual habits.
Elsewhere, The Holiday star reflected on advice she received years ago from her Sense and Sensibility co-star Emma Thompson.
As after her hit movie Titanic, she turned her into a global superstar, then Emma warned her not to work constantly.
“She told me it’s just as important not to work as it is to work,” she said, advice she still follows today.
