The Oscars have made a special announcement about the future of the Academy Awards ceremony, and the platform it will be accessible on.

As streaming platforms experience a spike in viewership, along with a subsequent decrease in the viewership of films and TV, the Academy has also taken an unprecedented step.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor said the partnership will “expand access to the work of the Academy to the largest worldwide audience possible” and the deal will run through till 2033.

The announcement has gone viral on social media, with netizens trolling the need for the statement to be made four years in advance.

“Do it next year or don't announce it this early,” one netizen wrote, with another adding “Doesn’t matter, by that year we’ll be in mars already eating McRibs every day with no time for the Oscars.”

“Finally, the Oscars will have mid-roll ads during acceptance speeches,” a third internet user quipped on X.

The post also earned an eyes emoji from the well-known YouTuber, Mr. Beast, with internet users further trolling that he might host the event.
