American star Aneglina Jolie has revealed her double mastectomy scars for the first time.
In 2013, the actress received the surgery, a preventive double mastectomy, to reduce her chances of getting breast cancer.
In an exclusive cover story for TIME France, the actress revealed her scars to raise awareness for the cause.
“I share these scars with many women I love”, she said.
She added “And I'm always moved when I see other women share theirs.”
The 50-year-old had the surgery because she carries a faulty gene that makes her more likely to get breast cancer in the future.
Speaking about the cause, the actress said “I wanted to join them, knowing that TIME France would be sharing information about breast health, prevention, and knowledge about breast cancer.”
For the cover picture, Angelina can be seen sitting in a black plunging sweater covering her chest.
Previously, she spoke about losing her mother and grandmother very young at the the San Sebastian Film Festival saying “I did choose to have that [surgery] because I lost my mother and my grandmother very young.”
The surgery drops the person’s chance of getting breast cancer from 87 percent to under 5 percent.
