Peter Andre has publicly supported Australia’s decision regarding social media for teenagers based on the global risks.
The Australian government became the first country in the world to impose ban on social media applications for children under 16.
The platforms included YouTube, X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Snapchat, and TikTok.
On Wednesday, December 10, the change took effect by deactivating existing profiles of the age bracket and making sure new accounts are not created.
Authorities declared the step would help reduce the negative impact of social media on teenagers, noting the, "design features that encourage [young people] to spend more time on screens, while also serving up content that can harm their health and wellbeing."
The 52-year-old British-Australian singer and songwriter shared his thoughts in the new! magazine column.
The father of five penned, "Australia has implemented their social media ban for under 16s, and it's great. When people ask me if it's a contradiction that I've had my kids on social media.”
He went on to take accountability, “We have to remember that when social media first started, we were all new to it. We didn't know the pitfalls of it.”
He explained that now “we're seeing what AI can do; that's why our youngest children are not on it. I fully support the ban.”
“I know that's not what kids under 16 want to hear, but it will do them so much good. I hope the rest of the world catches on. The dangers are so real,” Andre explained.
The All About Us hitmaker has two children, Junior, 20 and Princess, 19, with ex-wife Katie Price.
His second marriage to Emily Andre resulted three children: Millie, 11, Theo, 9 and Belle, 20 months.
