Andy Dick has finally decided to enter rehabilitation after his allegedly recent overdose incident.
The 59-year-old actor has now agreed to receive treatment just days after he was caught in a messy state outside a Hollywood building after an alleged overdose.
Dick confirmed he is being helped and thanked his long-term friend Jennifer Gimenez and her husband for it. “Jenny Gimenez is my sister who saved me with Tim,” he told TMZ.
He is said to be receiving his treatment in a Palm Springs, California-based facility. The update came as a surprise since Dick had previously revealed he had no plans to go to rehab.
Previously the actor outright rejected the idea of treatment when he was asked if he would consider medical help. “I’m not going to be in rehab,” he insisted.
Eyewitness Shawn Harrell later described the scene to People magazine, saying he initially thought a movie was being filmed because of video equipment in the area.
“His body was limp. It was like deadweight. It was blue. I thought he passed away,” Harrell said.
He recalled hearing people shout for Dick to wake up before realising the situation was serious.
Harrell informed that Dick was found slumped over a staircase and only briefly regained consciousness before collapsing again.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and administered Narcan which is a medication used to save lives in case of an opioid overdose.
Dick later spoke to media outlets and confirmed he was alive but did not disclose what substances were involved.
The actor has long been open about his struggles with addiction and has appeared on Celebrity Rehab in the past.
