Saturday Night Live is known for poking fun at the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and this week’s cold open is no different.

The skit opened up with the Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, played by Colin Jost, holding a press conference and insulting reporters for inquiring about “ongoing military action off of the coast of Venezuela.”

Hegseth then arrives to announce that they are at war with Venezuela, and degrading journalists as they ask about his concerning and controversial actions.

One reporter, played by Andrew Dismukes points out that the former TV personality has been accused of war crimes and Trump has also been distancing himself from the 45-year-old.

The government official then proceeds to slam the reporter, later adding that the President has his back before the camera pans to James Austin Johnson’s Trump, sleeping in a chair.

“Stop Mamdani, you can freeze my rent any time,” he mumbles during the slumber before waking up and claiming that he wasn’t sleeping.

Trump also added, “I stand by Pete, and nothing can change my mind. Unless, of course, he could hurt me in any way, in which case I’ll throw him under one of Mamdani’s free buses.”

Notably, the skit refers to the viral press conference between the New York City mayor and the businessman, in which the latter seemed to be happy and impressed with the former despite them having starkly different political policies.
