Rita Ora is refusing to be tied down to just one lane, and she’s loving every minute of it.
The 35-year-old star, who first exploded onto the music scene after signing with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation back in 2009, became a global name with hits like R.I.P. and How We Do (Party).
But while most would ride that wave for life, Rita had other ideas.
By the mid-2010s she’d slipped seamlessly into acting, landing the role of Mia in the Fifty Shades of Grey films, and soon became a familiar face on TV too, judging on The Masked Singer.
Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, she told the Daily Mail she refuses to be boxed in: “People tend to limit themselves to one category — and you don’t need to do that. I see myself as an amateur every day because I’m constantly learning.”
She revealed her biggest inspiration and that is her mum, Vera Sahatciu.
And Rita insists she’s simply following the trail blazed by icons who proved you can be more than one thing, from Madonna to Blondie to Cher.
“It’s amazing to see these boundaries being broken,” she said.
But the Poison hitmaker isn’t just carving her own path, she wants to light the way for others.
From equal pay to menopause stigma, she says women still face needless scrutiny: “Why is it even questioned? Women supporting women should be natural.”
