Kate Winslet recalls pursing acting despite father’s accident

English acting legend Kate Winslet opened up about picking acting as her career when she was young.

The Titanic star spoke with SAG-AFTRA foundation in a clip shaed on December 2.

The actress was born to nanny Sally Ann and struggling actor Roger John Winslet in 1975.

As Kate’s maternal grandparents were also actors, she emphasised that “doesn’t necessarily mean that you understand what the job of acting actually is”.

“It just means really how to be loud so I knew how to be loud and I knew how to fight for my spot. I knew how to sing and to dance and to sort of perform”, she added.

The Oscar winner soon realised she could make a career out of it even though her family could not and struggled financially.

The Finding Neverland star was only 11 when her father met an accident in a boat which injured his foot severely leaving him in a situation where it was harder to find work.

Explaining the incident, the actress said it “really dramatically impacted on his life”.

Speaking of acting, Kate said “It’s not rocket science and it’s really hard but it’s a job that is just pretending and I absolutely love pretending.”
