Joey Morof, who recently went viral on TikTok for his spot-on Hugh Jackman impression, has shared his experience of rising to fame.
The 24-year-old performer revealed that his journey to online stardom didn’t begin with a Hollywood A-lister, it all started with his Jewish grandmother.
For the unversed, the Birmingham, Michigan native spent years copying her accent for laughs, and soon he was mimicking everyone from teachers to cartoon characters.
But nothing prepared him for the day his Jackman impression would take over the internet.
The TikToker, now based in New York, first attempted The Wolverine actor’s Les Misérables vocals as a college joke.
But during a summer trip to London, a casual dinner conversation sparked something bigger.
When Morof belted out “One Day More” at the table, his boyfriend urged him to film it.
Fate stepped in the next morning, while wandering through the city, he spotted a bakery with “Jackman” written across the front.
It was too perfect to ignore so he recorded a quick video, posted it to TikTok, and within hours it exploded, soaring past a million views.
Notably, one clip has since hit a staggering 27 million.
“The hardest part is the Australian accent,” Morof joked. “But if I nail that, I’m golden.”
The viral success has boosted him to nearly a million TikTok followers, caught the attention of major creators, and opened doors in voiceover and comedy.
Now he’s planning a solo live show in New York, with Broadway producers already watching.
Morof says he’s simply in it for the joy. “If I can make someone laugh, even for a moment, that’s everything.”
