Kate Middleton’s polite move contradicts Meghan Markle’s Netflix accusation

Kate Middleton's warm behaviour during a visit to Roman Kemp’s family home has resurfaced, and many royal watchers believe it quietly contradicts Meghan Markle’s complaints about royal formality behind closed doors.

The Princess of Wales visited the Kemp household in Hertfordshire in February 2023 while working with the TV and radio star on a short film for her Shaping Us mental health initiative.

Kate and Roman connected after she watched his powerful documentary about men’s mental health, and the visit reportedly left a lasting impression on the family.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Roman Kemp revealed the future Queen showed an unexpectedly down-to-earth side during the meeting.

According to Roman, the Princess of Wales immediately noticed that the family had removed their shoes at the door and politely offered to do the same.

He recalled: “I remember when she arrived, she could see everyone else had taken their shoes off so she offered to take hers off. It was surreal. Somehow, you never expect to see a member of the Royal Family in their socks!”

The moment stands in stark contrast to Meghan Markle’s comments during her and Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries, in which the Duchess suggested the Royal Family maintained strict formality even when behind closed doors.

In episode two of the series, Meghan described being “surprised” that the etiquette she expected to drop in private continued at home.

Meghan said: “Even when Will and Kate came over and I had met her for the first time, they came over for the first time, I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot.”

“I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and think, ‘OK we can relax now.’ But that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.”

She added: “I was a hugger and have always been a hugger. I didn’t realise that that was really jarring for a lot of Brits.”
