Eddie Murphy would have had a very different career path and starred in some of Hollywood’s most iconic comedies differently if he had not turned them down.

Speaking with AP in a recent interview to promote his new Netflix documentary, Being Eddie, Murphy shared his “big three ‘wish I would have done’ movies.”

The list began with the American supernatural comedy film Ghostbusters, for which Murphy was originally slated.

“Didn’t do that,” Murphy said about the movie, adding Rush Hour: “Didn’t do that. Oh, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Those are my big three ‘wish I would have done’ movies.”

Murphy wished he had joined those projects because they were all huge, giant hits, yet he doesn’t regret it too much. It was all for good, as the star explained that he landed the part of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop because he turned down the role in Ghostbusters.

“With Ghostbusters, I did Beverly Hills Cop instead,” he said. “It was do this or that, so it worked out cool. And Who Framed Roger Rabbit just sounded ridiculous to me, and I passed on it. And afterwards, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s fucking amazing.’”

Being Eddie debuted on Netflix on Nov. 12, bringing fresh insights into Murphy’s long-running career.

In the documentary, he also opens up about feeling blindsided by Saturday Night Live after the show labelled him a falling star while mocking the lukewarm reception of his 1995 horror comedy Vampire in Brooklyn.
