Glen Powell recalls feeling intimidated by Dustin Hoofman

Glen Powell is known for his confident charm, but early in his career, he admits he was completely starstruck by Dustin Hoffman, so much so that he messed up a script reading with the legendary actor.

Sharing the story on Hot Ones, Powell recalled, “My first week [in Hollywood], I found myself at a dinner sitting next to Dustin Hoffman. He saw a movie I did called ‘The Great Debaters,’ and the fact that he saw this movie just blew my mind.”

At that moment, the Running Man actor realized, “This is the coolest moment of my entire life.”

Hoffman complimented him and followed up with a call inviting Powell to read for a project. But once Powell sat down across from the icon, nerves got the better of him.

“I started reading them, but I was so in awe that Dustin Hoffman was sitting across from me,” he said. “As I’m reading, I’m watching the life drain from his eyes… and I left so defeated.”

Powell explained he eventually learned to overcome his starstruck tendencies. “What you start to realize is that all this business is play… you start looking at them as collaborators who are just trying to make magic for audiences around the world,” he said.

While Powell hasn’t shared the screen with Hoffman yet, he gained major recognition starring opposite Tom Cruise in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick.
