Taylor Swift’s ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ dig at Joe Alwyn?

Joe Alwyn is opening up about his appreciation for Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and the actor’s remarks make Taylor Swift’s single off of The Life of a Showgirl seem like a jab directed at him.

The Kinds of Kindness actor’s upcoming film Hamnet, which follows the renowned playwright’s life, also makes the discussion of the specific play just as integral to his professional life as The Fate of Ophelia’s singer.

In his cover for GQ magazine, the English star stated, “I even had a mouse named Hamlet once. Later, when I saw Ben Whishaw play the role on stage, it really made an impression on me."

"So I feel like this play has been with me my whole life, as is the case for many people who love Shakespeare,” he continued. 

Joe gushed over Hamlet more, adding that it means a lot to him, as well as talking about how much he would want to play the character if he got the chance.

Meanwhile, his ex-lover’s song is about how Travis Kelce saved her from the tragic fate of Hamlet’s lover, Ophelia.

Throughout the song, Taylor talks about how she was on the verge of being driven mad by love, and drowning in melancholy, likely as a result of her past relationship.

Notably, the 14-time Grammy winner has also explained that she too loves Shakespearean characters and doesn’t want to see them meet their tragic demise.

Taylo likely would have also known about how much Hamlet means to Joe, making it a pointed dig at him.
