Tekashi 6ix9ine is making light of Demi Lovato’s sobriety journey after a lengthy struggle with substance abuse.
The controversial rapper made some distasteful remarks about the Stone Cold singer, hinting that she would relapse, and later defending the remarks.
In an appearance on Andie Elle's podcast, the Fefe rapper replied to the host telling him that the Camp Rock alum is clean.
He said, “She's gonna relapse, let's send her a gift. Let's send her some...” and after the next word was censored he continued that he wanted to make her relapse.
The insensitive comment earned a lot of backlash, since Demi has been vocal about the fact that her overdose on heroin in 2018 made her have three strokes and a heart attack, nearly taking her life.
Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, issued a statement to TMZ, insisting that the remarks were, “dark humor, dark humor is going extinct,” adding, “People in this new generation are just overly sensitive.”
However, the initial remarks and the doubling down aren’t funny to netizens who have taken to social media to express their disapproval.
A majority of internet users praised Demi for her years of sobriety, and bashed Tekashi saying that what he said was simply hateful and unfunny.
Demi was 28 when she suffered the traumatic overdose, which damaged her brain and affected her vision.
