Kurt Cobain, the lead vocalist of the iconic grunge band Nirvana, only wanted to be a drummer.
His dream for stardom began after listening to the first-ever Beatles record. On that day, the Heart-Shaped Box singer decided he wanted to be the next Ringo Starr.
“I always wanted to be a drummer,” Cobain once said.
“When I was around seven years old, I thought for sure that I could be a rockstar,” the pixie meat admitted.
The Nirvana frontman was heavily influenced by how Starr used to lead the song with a relaxed and instinctive feel, describing it as the heartbeat of music.
“Ever since I could remember, I wanted to be Ringo Starr. But I wanted to be John Lennon playing the drums,” he said, expressing his wish to both talents in himself.
The Come as You Are vocalist believed in being down to earth, even after making his name known to the world through his band.
The singer-songwriter often expresses his gratefulness for having a chance to work with big names in the music industry, even having a successful career himself.
The singer once said, discussing his tour with Sonic Youth, “To be asked to go on tour with a band like Sonic Youth was like a dream come true.”
“I still can’t describe what I felt. What an honour,” he stated.
The Nirvana lead vocalist died of suicide at the mere age of 27 on April 5th, 1994.
The exact reason behind his suicide remains unknown, but sources often blame it on his struggle with mental health and addiction.
Cobain was married at the time of his death to Courtney Love, and the couple shared one daughter named Frances Bean Cobain, who still possesses the right to use and publicity of his father’s fame.
