Jennifer Lawrence reflects on ‘peace’ during acting hiatus

For Jennifer Lawrence, taking a break from Hollywood turned out to be a positive move, one that left her feeling “at peace.”

On Friday, October 17, the Oscar-winning actress reflected on her acting hiatus during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show alongside Jeremy Allen White, Bruce Springsteen, and Tessa Thompson to promote her upcoming film Die My Love.

Lawrence’s career has experienced its highs and lows since the mid-2010s, following her breakout success in The Hunger Games trilogy.

She has since taken two separate two-year breaks from acting: the first between 2019 and 2021, when she stepped away after X-Men: Dark Phoenix before returning to lead Adam McKay’s satire Don’t Look Up.

When Norton asked whether she ever feared being unable to return to Hollywood after stepping away, the Silver Linings Playbook star offered a thoughtful reflection.

“I was at peace with that possibility of happening. [Hollywood] is a lot,” Lawrence shared. “I think I would've been fine. Well, I mean, no, I would be really upset.”

Lawrence went on to admit that working nonstop through her 20s made her wonder what else was “out here,” beyond the industry.

“I made COVID happen,” Lawrence quipped, referring to the timing of her break.

“I was just like, ‘I want to take a break,’” she continued. “They were like, ‘The world is shutting down.’”
