Vanessa Kirby on filming 'Avengers: Doomsday' while Pregnant

Vanessa Kirby, who is making her debut in Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps as Sue Storm, spoke about filming Avengers: Doomsday while being pregnant.

Recently, on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kirby revealed it’s the “coolest thing” to shoot the latest instalment of the Avengers franchise while pregnant.

“As you know, I'm pregnant, and it's been the coolest thing to be shooting an Avengers movie while pregnant, and they've been utterly amazing,” she said, before referring to the movie’s directors and Marvel Studios president. “The Russos and Kevin and the whole team. It's been very cool to do that.”

The BAFTA-winning actress confirmed her pregnancy with boyfriend Paul Rabil when she walked the red carpet in a form-fitting dress at the CCXPMX Film Festival in Mexico City in May 2025.

She held her bump, expecting her first baby, while posing on the red carpet.

Kirby’s character in Fantastic Four is a pregnant superhero, which she said was a “great honour.”

Previously, speaking to the PA news agency, she said it’s “revolutionary” to have a mother at the centre of Marvel’s first family.

“When I first started talking about Sue, I was already so passionate about her,” she told the agency. “It was so exciting to me, this idea of having a pregnant superhero, a working mother. Even in the shooting of it, it was surreal because I had this pregnancy bump, but I was so included in everything.”
