Andy Samberg is opening up about the popularity of the cult classic sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and his character from the series Jake Peralta’s prominence in fans hearts.
The crime themed comedy show has seen its fair share of comparisons with another New York City centred show that has cemented itself in pop culture since its release in the 90s, Friends.
Although the two have vastly different premises, fans and now the Palm Springs actor couldn’t help but discuss both the shows when talking about fame.
In a recent episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Andy revealed what it felt like to be recognized on a family trip to Europe a few years prior.
“It’s a gift that keeps giving, because of the Netflix part of it, everywhere I went, it was like, ‘Jake Peralta!’ I felt like I was on Friends” he stated.
The Saturday Night Live alum continued, “I was like, ‘Oh my God, the show is actually really big and people really watch it.”
Notably, Friends has a significant amount of global reach, cultural impact, viewership and critical acclaim in contrast to the workplace sitcom.
The cast had negotiated their contracts down to $1 million per episode by the last season, however Joey Tribbiani played by Matt Le Blanc earned the most due to a film role.
