British rock fans are mourning the loss of a prominent figure after it was revealed that Patrick Walden has died at the age of 46.

The guitarist’s passing was announced on Friday by the current members of his former band, Babyshambles.

“It is with deep regret and sadness that we share the news of Patrick Walden’s death. We feel very fortunate to have known/loved and worked with him and we kindly ask for respect and privacy during these difficult times,” Pete Doherty, Mick Whitnall, Drew McConnell and Adam Ficek said in an Instagram tribute.

Born in London, Walden joined Babyshambles in 2003 with bassist McConnell and drummer Gemma Clarke, playing a key role in shaping the rock band's early trajectory.

He co-wrote several songs for their 2005 debut album Down in Albion including the hit single F*** Forever, which reached No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart.

After leaving Babyshambles in 2005 because of personal struggles, the musician was replaced by Whitnall for their 2007 album Shotter’s Nation.

However, Walden continued to make occasional appearances with the group and frontman Doherty also previously hinted at a possible reunion tour for the 20th anniversary of Down in Albion.

Who are the past members of Babyshambles?

The previous members of Babyshambles include drummers Gemma Clarke, Jamie Morrison and Danny Goffey as well as late guitarist Patrick Walden.
