The original cast of Hamilton sat down for an interview with Variety for their show stopping reunion performance at the 2025 Tony Awards.
Christopher Jackson admitted he hadn’t been able to sleep the night before, “I’m elated. I’m full. My heart is overflowing. It was so impactful when we were doing it. It continues to be impactful now. It never really went away.”
Renée Elise Goldsberry explained, “It never left,” however, she admitted that “there were a couple times somebody tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘That’s not the note.'”
Daveed Diggs stated, “This group was really special, and you took it for granted when you were doing it. You just feel very fortunate that we’re getting to come back and do it again because that doesn’t happen for everything. So, to be able to live in it again and be reminded about how special it is, at a time when I’m a little more equipped to slow down and appreciate it. It’s really, really wonderful.”
Jonathan Groff chimed in to admit, “I just walk out for five seconds and go, ‘Da, da, da, da, da’; it’s like the easiest thing ever — and then I’m just watching in total awe. It was such a reminder of the genius of that show and the genius of that original cast. It’s such an incredible group.”
