David Beckham was right in the middle of the festivities when Paris Saint-Germain eventually won the Champions League trophy on Saturday night.

PSG defeated Inter Milan 5-0 at Munich's Allianz Arena to become just the second French team to win the title and they did it in spectacular fashion.

Although Beckham's stints at Manchester United and Real Madrid are the highlights of his club career, he finished his playing career with PSG.

The 50-year-old played for AC Milan, Inter's bitter rivals, before making 14 appearances for PSG in the 2012–13 campaign.

The former captain of England posted a photo of himself smiling with PSG's players and supporters celebrating in the background shortly after the final whistle on Saturday, making it obvious that he had been cheering for the French team in Munich.

The player wrote a 12-word message as the image's caption. "History made," it said. "Congrats, @PSG. WOW, what a fantastic game. Ici c'est Paris."

He and Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise had attended the game from a private box in Munich.

Why did David Beckham retire?

Beckham clarified that the primary cause of his retirement was the physical consequences of playing football.
