Prince Harry's journey to healing reportedly started with a surprising push and an even more surprising therapist.

According to royal biographer Tina Brown in The Palace Papers, it was Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas who first urged the Duke to get professional help due to his “explosive temperament.”

The couple dated from 2012 to 2014 after being introduced by Princess Eugenie.

And the therapist in question? None other than Julia Samuel, a close friend of Princess Diana, godmother to Prince George, and, reportedly, someone with MI6 ties.

“There was a need for someone who could be incredibly discreet… Therapists at MI6, that’s what they do,” an insider told Brown.

Samuel, a well-known NHS bereavement counsellor, allegedly helped Harry begin to process the trauma of losing his mother at just 12 years old.

According to the book, Harry once coped by “sticking [his] head in the sand” or through “champagne hooliganism.”

The duke later opened up about his mental health journey in his 2023 memoir Spare, recounting how a heated argument with Meghan Markle became the catalyst for therapy.

“Maybe the wine went to my head,” he wrote. “I became touchy. Then angry. Disproportionately, sloppily angry.”

Meghan called him out, asking: “Where did you ever hear a man speak like that to a woman?” to which he admitted: “Yes… growing up.”

That raw exchange sparked a decision: it was time to face his past — and get help. “It came from somewhere deep inside,” Harry wrote, “and it was obvious I could use some help with the job.”
