Kristen Stewart is set to make her directorial debut with the film, The Chronology of Water at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said that she hopes "we crash and burn, but in a way that feels correct.”

Saying that she "cannot believe" the movie is premiering at Cannes, Stewart added, "There’s not a more eloquent way [to say it]. We barely finished this movie. It’s not even done. I need to come home and literally have two more weeks in color and sound. This is my f****** first draft."

The Chronology of Water is an adaptation of the 2011 memoir from Lidia Yuknvavitch. The cast includes Imogen Poots and Earl Cave with Stewart admitting she had wanted to make films since she was nine years old.

Of the film’s production, the Twilight star continued, "I am not being false humble — we’re all running on fumes. I was like, 'We can do it.' I was like an absolute basket case. I’m kind of happy to take on something vulnerable. I’m happy to take something with mistakes. Mistakes are f****** hot."

"Brought up in an environment torn apart by violence and alcohol, Lidia Yuknavitch seemed destined for self-destruction and failure until words offered her unexpected freedom in the form of literature," reads the film’s synopsis from Cannes as it "follows Lidia’s journey to find her own voice in an exploration of how trauma can be transformed into art through re-possessing our own bloody histories, particularly those uniquely experienced by the bodies of women and girls."
