The Weeknd’s first off-music project, The Idol, a show about a pop star joining what could be called a "cult" of self-help gurus, didn't do very well.
The show, which starred Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye, received an incredibly low rating of 19 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
It turns out that the singer’s most recent production, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which also stars Jenna Ortega, has The Idol beat—but not in the way you might think.
Fan reviews are already starting to surface, and they don't look good, even though the film hasn't received an official Rotten Tomatoes score yet.
There are two 0.5s out of 4, a 0 out of 4, and even an F among the audience ratings.
One reviewer harshly commented, "You don't watch this film so much as try to survive it."
Other critics described the film as "vapid," "meandering," and "insistent on its own profundity," calling it The Weeknd's vanity project.
The Weeknd lost his voice and ultimately had to reschedule his show while he was already on stage.
