‘The Hunger Games’ prequel casts Maya Hawke as Wiress

The newest cast member for the prequel adaptation, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, is Stranger Things star, Maya Hawke.

The Lionsgate film which takes from Suzanne Collins’ best selling novel will see the actress take on the role of Wiress.

Leading the cast are stars Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak who will take on the roles of Haymitch Abernathy and Lenore Dove Baird respectively.

Child star Mckenna Grace will be portraying Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons will play Plutarch Heavensbee while Kelvin Harrison Jr. is set to portray the character of Beetee.

Francis Lawrence has made a return to direct the flick, with the script coming from Billy Ray. Producers will be Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, with Cameron MacConomy as the executive producer.

“Explores Panem 24 years before Katniss' saga, starting on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, where a young Haymitch Abernathy participates,” reads an initial synopsis.

Sunrise on the Reaping is slated for a November 20, 2026 release, coming after the smash hit prequel, A Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds.

Along with her role on Stranger Things, Hawke gave voice to Anxiety in Inside Out 2 as well as the Netflix flick, Do Revenge.
