New claims have resurfaced about the emotional fallout between Meghan Markle and Princess Kate just days before Harry and Meghan’s 2018 royal wedding.
Author Tom Quinn’s Yes, Ma'am: The Secret Life Of Royal Servants cites a former royal staffer who revealed that the tense argument over Princess Charlotte’s ill-fitting bridesmaid dress left both Meghan and Kate in tears.
“The truth is that during the discussions about the bridesmaids’ dresses, Meghan said a few things she regretted and Kate said a few things she later regretted," the insider shared.
"It was all in the heat of the moment. Both women were crying their eyes out!"
The new account suggests that the incident, which has fueled public drama for years, was "subtly altered" and "made more significant than it really is" over time.
Quinn notes that the dress dispute became symbolic of wider tensions between Meghan, Kate, Prince William, and the rest of the Royal Family.
The wedding party at the 2018 royal wedding included ten bridesmaids and page boys, including Prince George and Princess Charlotte, along with Meghan’s godchildren and the children of close friends like Jessica Mulroney.
Meghan first publicly addressed the infamous spat during her 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, where she claimed the media had the story backwards, that it was Kate who made her cry, not the other way around.
Meghan said: "It wasn't a confrontation... she apologised. What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn't do but that happened to me."
Prince Harry also detailed the moment in his memoir Spare, recalling coming home to find Meghan “on the floor, sobbing” after the emotional confrontation with Kate.
However, he wrote that the situation de-escalated the next morning when Kate came by with flowers and a note apologizing.
