Fans of the hit HBO series, The Last of Us who were expecting the quick release of the show’s third season are facing major disappointment.
The second season is currently running and will wrap up in the next few weeks as it covers half of the second game.
Star Isabela Merced revealed that the filming for Season 3 is not expected to take place until 2026, with no specific time period given.
Season 1 of the show began filming in July, 2021 and ended in June, 2022, going on to be released in 2023.
Season 2 started filming in February, 2024, wrapped up in August 2024 and came out in April, 2025.
That means the gap between the filming and the actual release of the first season was 18 months, and for season 2, it was 14 months.
Hence, if filming for Season 3 begins even ideally in January 2026, it will likely take around 16 months for the whole process. That means that fans can expect the release of the third season to be in the May, 2027 window.
If filming does not begin at the absolute start of 2026, then it can be expected to premiere around October, 2027.
“Tasked with escorting a teenager across a post-apocalyptic world, a dreaded smuggler joins hands with a young apprentice to fulfil the mission unscathed,” reads the synopsis of the series which stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey.
