Jessica Simpson sat down for an interview on Trailblazers Radio where she opened up about the time she was dropped by her music label in 2008.
"I took a long break," she told Fancy Hargood. "I was mad at music a bit. After being dropped with a number one country album, I was dropped and I just never understood it. They just said I would never recoup if I didn't give them part of the brand, but my brand was already successful."
She was even warned not to pursue a career in the music industry, "They told me not to do it. They thought it would ruin my career just like they thought reality TV would ruin my career, and it didn't."
However, the singer only wanted to be seen as relatable by people, "That's so important I believe as a musician, I'm not going to be the one up there that [is] like, 'Oh my God, I want to be just like Jessica.' I want people to say, 'Oh my God. I'm just like Jessica.' That just works for me. That thought process.”
Simpson officially made her return in March with the EP, Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 after which she performed for the first time in 15 years in that same month.
