Seems like Lil Durk does not want to wait until his long-awaited trial before he can walk free.
The rapper was arrested back in October with his Only the Family (OTF) affiliates for allegedly ordering a hit on his rival Quando Rondo in 2022, which resulted in the death of Saviay'a "Lul Pabb" Robinson.
It is believed that the shooting was in retaliation for the death of 26-year-old King Von in November 2020.
The 32-year-old was charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and committing murder-for-hire involving a death.
Durk's trial was initially scheduled for January 7, 2025 but due to legal complications, it was rescheduled for October 14 later this year.
In a new development, Durk has argued that prosecutors have misrepresented crucial evidence and is requesting a Los Angeles federal judge to reconsider his pretrial detention.
In a detention hearing back in December, prosecutors claimed that the Chicago rapper referenced Lul Pabb’s murder in the track Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy by Babyface Ray that also featured Durk.
In a new court filing, Durk’s legal team argued that the government misled the court by presenting the song’s lyrics as evidence.
Attorney Drew Findling submitted an affidavit from the producer of the song, which confirmed that it was composed seven months before the murder-for-hire shooting.
“It is unfair, misleading, and just flat-out wrong for the government to suggest that Mr. Banks is responsible for these video/audio edits or that they evidence his purported commercialization of a murder that he supposedly ordered,” Attorney Findling said in the petition.
The defence is also offering a bond package to eliminate potential risk if Durk is released, including $900,000 in real estate equity, $1 million in cash from Alamo Records and $150,000 from a business associate.
Hip hop group Only the Family, aka OTF, was formed in Chicago in 2010 by Lil Durk along with King Von.
