Conan O’Brien seems to share netizens’ sentiments about Adrien Brody’s over-the-limit Oscars speech.
The 52-year-old won his second Academy Award at the 92nd edition of the prestigious ceremony for his role in The Brutalist.
Adrien marked the lengthiest speech ever in the history of the annual event, even saying, “Please turn the music off. I’ve done this before, it’s not my first rodeo. Thank you,” during his nearly six-minute-long address.
The moment garnered a largely negative response online, with netizens labelling him as someone who is self-indulgent and disrespectful.
Conan recently revealed his internal monologue during Adrien’s external one, to Carol Leifer on his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.
“Just witnessed that when I was backstage at the Oscars. I so wanted to — but I thought, ‘It’s late in the day, don’t be a d**k,'” the 62-year-old began recalling the occasion.
He continued, “I so wanted to go out there and say, ‘You thought ‘The Brutalist’ was long!'”
The ex-host of the Tonight Show then went on to quip, “For a second I almost said that speech needed an intermission.”
Notably, Conan has also joked elsewhere that he has agreed to host the 2026 Oscars for the very reason that he can “hear Adrien Brody finish his speech."
The 98th Academy Awards are set to take place on March 15, 2026 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The event will also see the return of host Conan O’Brien.
