Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman named Laura Penly, who also says he gave her sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
She further claimed in the new lawsuit that the STDs led to her contracting cervical cancer. The singer allegedly assaulted her in 2004 when she was 19 years old, which he denied.
Their interactions took place from 2004 to February 2005, with it being a “sexually intimate relationship and [they] would see each other approximately every few weeks” whenever she came to Los Angeles.
She detailed that they had consensual intercourse three times before things took a turn when she asked him to use protection, which he refused claiming that “he was ‘clean’ of sexually transmittable diseases."
In another incident, she went by his place to watch movies but he “told her no because the only reason she was there was to have s**.”
Penly alleged that the assault took place “forcefully” on his bed despite her “saying ‘no’ multiple times.”
Carter “failed to use protection to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections to” her.
Being cautioned to keep it a secret because no one would believe her, he allegedly apologized some time later, going on to assault her once more.
The lawsuit claims he “infected plaintiff with various sexually transmitted diseases, including the human papillomavirus (commonly known as HPV), a sexually transmitted infection known to cause health problems such as cervical cancer.”
After testing positive for the STDs, she “was diagnosed with Stage 2 Cervical Cancer and had to undergo numerous treatments,” that caused “severe emotional distress, physical anguish, medical issues, intimacy issues, and other complex trauma.”
Penly is seeking damages in excess of $15,000, also demanding a jury trial.
