Sarah Michelle Gellar honours Shannen Doherty after death

I Know What You Did Last Summer star Sarah Michelle Gellar paid a sweet tribute to fellow actor Shannen Doherty, who passed away in July of 2024.

Shannen, known for movies like Mallrats, lost the battle to metastatic breast cancer at just 53 years old, leaving admirers and co-stars heartbroken.

Sarah, 47, took to Instagram to share her love for the late star, whose birthday falls on April 12, two days before the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star’s own birthday.

“For as long as I can remember, we have celebrated our birthdays together @theshando,” the MTV award winner wrote in the caption of her post, which featured a picture of her with Shannen grinning ear to ear as the two stood over a birthday cake.

The picture was a throwback from when the two were younger, whereas the following video from the post seemed to mark a more recent celebration.

“This year I will keep that tradition, and celebrate you. I am so glad we were all together on this day last year, not knowing it would be the last like this,” she continued, referring to the second capture from the carousel.

Sarah ended the caption with a simple wish, “Happy Birthday Shannen” with a dove emoji.

Shannen was also wished by her Charmed co-star, Rose McGowan, who posted a picture of the deceased actress with the same sentiment, “Happy Birthday Shannen Doherty.”

It is important to note that Sarah and Shannen had been friends for three decades before her passing.
