Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane, who played Dr. Mark Sloan, has gone public with an incurable disease he has been diagnosed with.

The 52-year-old shared he has been suffering with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS, which affects the nervous system.

The actor is best known for his roles on medical drama show Grey’s Anatomy and teen drama series Euphoria.

“I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter”, Dane opened about his battle with ALS while speaking to the People.

The news comes as the actor is preparing to start shooting for the third season of Euphoria that is expected to release in 2026.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and [me] privacy during this time.”

ALS is also known as the Lou Gehrig's disease which makes the patient paralysed a sit progresses.

The life expectancy after being diagnosed with ALS is two to three years while some people can live beyond 10 years.

The famous English physicist Stephen Hawking was also diagnosed with the disease at 21 but he lived until the age of 76.

What is ALS?

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease is a disorder of the nervous system that affects the nerve cells in brain and the spinal cord. The rare conditions makes the patient lose control of muscles and progressively gets worse over time.
