The band that toured for nearly 70 years is exiting the British rock and roll scene in 2025.

The four-man group, formed in 1957, has seen much success over the years, with sold-out venues and hit songs such as Don’t Throw Your Love Away, Sugar And Spice and Love Potion Number 9.

Initially formed by Mike Pender, 84, and John McNally, 83, the band saw many members come and go over time, with the current ones being McNally, Spencer James, Richie Burns and the legendary bassist Frank Allen.

The group attributed their reason for quitting to old age and surprisingly, traffic.

In an interview with The Guardian, 81-year-old Allen disclosed, “Age slows you down a bit. We did between 180 and 200 shows a year. But driving up and down the motorways is the hard part because the traffic is so much heavier than it ever was.”

“There was never a problem with recovering from a show because that’s the thing that brings you to life. We were always fit to do a show. It’s just the driving up and down motorways,” he added.

Allen’s sentiments were echoed by creator McNally, who agreed that the traffic was an “absolute nightmare.”

The Searchers will come together for their Final Farewell Tour from June 14 to 27 at this year’s Glastonbury festival.
