Singer Teyana Taylor wants her ex-husband brought to justice but Iman Shumpert has other plans.
The 34-year-old finalised her divorce from Shumpert last year after marrying the basketball star in 2016.
According to TMZ, Taylor has accused Shumpert of deliberately sharing confidential court documents with news outlets. The documents in question contained details about the couple’s divorce.
In response, Taylor filed a petition on Tuesday against Shumpert accusing him of orchestrating a smear campaign to generate publicity for his new song.
Taylor claimed that the alleged leak caused widespread misinformation, damaging her public image.
Recently, rumours surfaced that Taylor scored big in the divorce settlement as she was awarded luxury vehicles and properties.
The rumours also suggested that Shumpert was required to cover private school tuition expenses for their daughters and to pay $8,000 a month in child support.
Taylor denied those rumours and revealed that it was a judicial allocation of assets rather than a negotiated settlement.
Taylor clarified that while she was awarded four properties, her ex-husband was also awarded three including a luxury condo in Miami which was originally hers.
On Wednesday, Shumpert’s attorney, Stephen C. Steele, responded to the petition, denying the leaking accusations.
"My client, Mr. Iman Shumpert, has never whatsoever leaked any allegations or claims stated in any of the pleadings," Steele said in a statement. "Mr. Shumpert adamantly denies that he has provided any information to any media."
The statement continued, "Specifically, but without limitations, he denies that he leaked any information which may have served as the basis for the multiple news reports preceding the trial of this matter."
Taylor has requested that the judge put Shumpert behind bars for 20 days and slap him with a hefty fine.
However, Shumpert's attorney stressed that the NBA player has no interest in sharing private and personal information with the media.
