Elizabeth Debicki, the actress who plays Princess Diana in The Crown reflected upon the time it took for her to blend into the role.
The globally renowned Netflix original featured the 34-year-old actress in its final two seasons as Princess Diana, after actress Emma Corrin stepped down as the younger version of the unforgettable figure.
The Tenet star opened up to the co-hosts of The One Show regarding her involvement with the role, "Because I played that part for quite some time, the prep was very intense because I prepped for it for nearly a year so by the time I wrapped filming I was nearly in it for about three years."
Elizabeth explained that the role was physically demanding as it required her to shift from her native Australian accent to the “Received Pronunciation.”
The actress, who won a Golden Globe as the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal, was also vocal about her impending West End play My Master Builder together with Ewan McGregor.
She noted her preference for theatre over film, stating, “I really love working on stage because we have so much time together in rehearsal. In film, I find it's rare to get rehearsal period and sometimes you can sort of have a husband that you meet the day before you’re filming an ‘I’m leaving you scene’."
The play involves Elizabeth’s character, Mathilde, affecting Ewan’s character Henry’s marriage by showing up unexpectedly.
