Why Kate Middleton has been ditching her sapphire engagement ring lately

Royal fans have noticed that Kate Middleton has been opting for a different ring instead of her iconic sapphire engagement ring in recent royal appearances. 

During a recent visit to Cardiff alongside Prince William, Kate was seen without the famous heirloom, sparking curiosity among royal watchers.

Speculation about Kate’s decision to ditch her 12-carat sapphire ring has been buzzing on social media.

One fan on X commented: "The Princess of Wales seems to be alternating between her engagement ring and this new one, which is most likely a gift from Prince William."

Another suggested practicality could be the reason, writing: "The large engagement ring gets in the way. It twists around her finger and gets in the way of daily tasks."

Jewelry expert Tobias Kormind of 77 Diamonds noted, per Express, that the new ring could symbolize new beginnings while maintaining a connection to the past.

Kate was first seen wearing the piece in a personal family video released when she announced her chemotherapy treatment had concluded.

Another expert, Maxwell Stone of Steven Stone, suggested that Kate may even be wearing a promise ring from her university days, which William gifted her long before their engagement.

"Unlike Kate’s 12-carat engagement ring—which she typically removes during physical activities, sports, or situations where there’s an increased risk of damage—this ring is more practical for daily wear," Stone explained, according to Express UK.
