Prince William is giving fans a rare glimpse into his love for soccer—and the quirky rituals he follows to bring luck to his favorite team, Aston Villa F.C.

The 42-year-old Prince of Wales, who serves as the patron of the English Football Association, has long been a dedicated supporter of the Birmingham-based club. Now, he’s passing that passion down to his children, particularly Prince George, 11, who has frequently accompanied him to matches at Villa Park.

Speaking to The Sun in an interview published on March 14, William admitted that when he watches Aston Villa games at home, his three children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6—often become part of his game day rituals.

"If I'm home alone with the children, I probably don't have the pre-match pint but I do have a bit of superstition about where I sit when I'm watching them," he revealed.

And when the team isn’t performing well, he doesn’t just sit and hope for the best—he takes action.

"If we’re not doing very well, I start moving round the house quite quickly and I put the children in different positions hoping that’s going to change our luck," he shared, adding that he remains an active viewer as a "paid-up member of Villa TV" when he can’t attend the games in person.

While William is deeply devoted to Aston Villa, he’s trying to let his children make their own choices when it comes to their favourite soccer clubs.

"I’m kind of hoping they’ll all find their own teams in time. They don't all have to be Villa fans," he explained.

That said, his enthusiasm for the sport is rubbing off on them.

"I’m trying not to be biased but obviously they see how passionate I am about it and they watch the matches with me. I’m trying to spread the love a little bit."

So far, George, Charlotte, and Louis seem interested.

"They do have Villa shirts and ask to come to games with me, but they have other shirts as well. There’s been a bit of courting going on by other managers too," William joked.

Beyond his royal duties, William also enjoys immersing himself in fan discussions—often anonymously.

"I like going on the forums, I can be on there for ages. I listen to what other fans have to say and give them my opinions. I get quite into it, definitely. It’s important to have that debate," he told The Sun.

William gave the interview just before attending Aston Villa’s match against Belgium’s Club Brugge at Villa Park on March 12. His presence may have been a good luck charm—Villa triumphed 3-0, securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain next month.
