Anna Sawai, a Japanese actress, sat down for an interview with People where she opened up about developing a relationship with a particular star after her win at the Emmy Awards for Shogun.
“Kathy Bates and I met for the first time at the Emmys, and she sent me flowers when I won and I sent her flowers when she won for the Critics' Choice [Awards],” she explained. “And we started texting, so I think she’s someone who I can very much rely on if I need any advice.”
After taking home the win for best performance by a female actor in a television series at the Golden Globes in January, she made sure to gush over Bates in her speech, “I have so much people to thank, but I’m gonna keep it short. Thank you to the voters for voting for me even though I would vote for Kathy Bates any day.”
More recently, Sawai claimed the winning spot for the outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series category, successfully beating out Matlock’s Bates, Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan and The Diplomat's Allison Janney and Keri Russell.
