Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa’s mysterious deaths are currently being investigated, but their friends have come forward about a recent meeting with the couple.
Daniel and Barbara Lenihan, close long time friends of the couple, told CNN, “Last time we saw them, they were alive and well.”
Barbara and Betsy had met quite recently at the home decor store that they owned together, “They were so delightful to be around. Probably never seen a couple that got along and enjoyed each other so much.”
The friends hadn’t gotten the chance to meet often due to health concerns after the Covid-19 pandemic, with Arakawa taking extra precautions to protect Hackman.
The bodies of the couple were found in separate rooms, with Arakawa in the bathroom with a prescription pill bottle and their deceased German Shepherd nearby. Hackman was in another room with his sunglasses on the floor near him.
The conditions in which they were found were deemed suspicious enough to warrant an investigation by the authorities. The actor’s daughter said in a statement that their family believes toxic fumes like carbon monoxide poisoning could have been the cause behind the tragedy.
