Guy Pearce says he was 'targeted' by Kevin Spacey: 'I was scared of him'

Guy Pearce is speaking out about his unsettling experience working with Kevin Spacey.

The Brutalist star opened up in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, revealing that he felt targeted by Spacey while working on the 1997 film L.A. Confidential.

“I was scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man, and… extremely charming and brilliant at what he does — and really impressive, etc. He holds a room remarkably. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question,” Pearce shared.

Pearce recalled that his then-wife Kate Mestitz was present during filming and that the only time he felt safe was when his co-star Simon Baker was around.

“I remember telling her the only time I felt safe on set was when Simon Baker was present with me, because I was dumped like a hot potato as soon as Kevin put his focus on him,” he said.

Although Pearce initially shrugged off the experience, his perspective changed during the #MeToo movement in 2017.

“[I] heard these stories about Kevin sort of officially as new stories. I was in London working on something, and I heard this and I broke down and sobbed, and I couldn’t stop,” he admitted.

“And I think it really dawned on me the impact that had occurred, and how I’d sort of brushed it off, and how I shelved it or blocked it out or whatever. That was a really incredible wake-up call,” he shared.
