New Jeans, a K-pop girl group, recently performed at the 2024 MBC Gayo Daejaejeon after leaving their agency.
Fans were elated at the group’s return, taking to social media to gush over their performance as well as their dancing skills.
One user, however, shared a clip of Hanni growing emotional after they finished performing their hit track, Attention.
“hanni crying after performing attention just broke me into pieces,” commented a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The performance comes after they asked their fans for suggestions of a new name after deciding to go independent from their agency, ADOR.
“Bunnies! We are holding a contest for two days to find a new promotional name to use for a certain period of time. Please leave a lot of recommendations in the comments!,” they wrote on their social media.
New Jeans left the company after voicing complaints of misconduct and failure to follow previous contracts.
A representative from the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) recently spoke about the controversy and claimed that the group may be tarnishing the reputation of the entire industry.
"For anyone with a basic understanding of business or the market, NewJeans’ claims are not even worth responding to,” they claimed.
The representative added that anyone attempting to resolve the conflict through press conferences and public forums would "damage both the artist’s image and the K-pop industry as a whole.”
