Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires, the country music power couple, decided to go their separate ways after over a decade of marriage.
The news of their split was made public by PEOPLE, only weeks before their 11th anniversary together.
According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Isbell, 45, officially filed for divorce from Shires, 41, on December 15. The couple, who exchanged vows in February 2013, shares an eight-year-old daughter named Mercy.
Their musical partnership has been a central part of their professional lives. Shires showcased her fiddle skills and vocals in Isbell’s band, the 400 Unit.
Meanwhile, Isbell has lent his guitar talent to Shires’s country supergroup, The Highwomen.
Last year, the couple celebrated their milestone decennary anniversary on social media with a sweet note.
"Happy ten years, @amandapearlshires. Every day I wake up and fall in love with you again," Isbell wrote on Instagram.
However, despite the outward display of affection, cracks in their relationship began to surface following the release of Isbell’s 2020 album, Reunion.
The couple’s marital friction was even documented in the 2023 documentary Running With Our Eyes Closed featuring an emotional scene in which Shires read an email from Isbell about marriage counseling.
Isbell, who has been sober since 2012, confessed to The New York Times in 2020 about the mounting pressures he faced during the production of Reunions, leading to pushing away those closest to him, including his wife.
Their marital tension reached a breaking point in 2020 when Shires temporarily moved into a hotel, feeling the need for space. Nevertheless, despite the turmoil, the couple eventually reconciled.
