Toby Keith was married to Tricia Lucus for almost four decades, and she proved to be a doting wife amid his health crisis.
Keith passed away on Monday at the age of 62 following his stomach cancer diagnosis in the fall of 2021.
Merely weeks before his demise, an interview was aired on News 9 in which the Red Solo Cup hitmaker gushed over his wife Lucus, 61, on how she stuck by his side and handled his cancer diagnosis.
"She’s been a trouper. She’s the best nurse," he told Robin Marsh in a one-on-one interview.
"The first time we went to Houston, to the hospital, she stepped right in and she just took control and said, 'We got this. Let's go'" the Should've Been a Cowboy crooner recalled.
He further noted, "So she's like, 'We're going to get this and don't worry about it.'"
Days after this interview Keith died as his family confirmed on Monday night that he "passed peacefully."
The country music icon was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2021, however, they didn’t disclose it before the public until June 2022.
When the news was revealed he said that time that he’d already received six months of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.
Keith and Lucus were first linked after he graduated from high school. The duo dated for three years before tying the knot in March 1984.
The two are parents to three children, Keith adopted Lucus' first daughter, Shelley, now 43.
Additionally, the couple welcomed their first child together, Krystal, 38, in September 1985 and had a third baby, son Steven, 26, in April 1997.
