Sofía Vergara recently opened up on her divorce from Joe Manganiello and shared the main reason for their split.
During an interview with El Pais, the Modern Family alum shed light on the couple’s decision to part ways implying that they were not on the same page when it came to having kids.
"My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom," the 51-year-old actress, who tied the knot with 47-year-old Manganiello, said.
The Grisdela star explained her fair reasons, "I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it. But that’s not for me anymore."
Expressing her desire to be a grandmother she went on to say, "I had a son at 19, who is now 31, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children."
The America's Got Talent judge, who shares a son, Manolo, with former husband Joe Gonzalez added, "I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things."
"When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while, and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do," she explained.
In July 2023, Vergara and Magic Mike series star announced that they were ending their seven years of marriage via a joint statement.
"As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives," they wrote that time.
Two days later, Manganiello filed for divorce, and as per court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the separation date was listed as July 2.
